Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVAY) Scheme

        The government of India under Ministry Of Social Justice And Empowerment Department Of Social Justice And Empowerment, the AVYAY, formerly known as National Action Plan for Senior Citizen (NAPSrc), was revamped, renamed as Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana in April 2021.

The Department of Social Welfare under  this scheme is implementing various programmes and activities and program in the state specifically designed for senior citizens. This program aims to provide support and assistance to the elderly population, ensuring that they have access to the necessary resources and services to improve their quality of life. Through this initiative, the department hopes to address the unique needs and challenges faced by senior citizens, such as healthcare, housing, and social inclusion. By taking proactive measures to support the elderly community, the department is demonstrating a commitment to promoting the well-being and dignity of all senior citizens in the state. This welfare reflects the government's dedication to creating a more inclusive and supportive society for older adults.

Rationale of the Scheme

The Scheme has been formulated on the basis of several discussions and deliberations held with Officers of Central Ministries/Departments dealing with the issues related to the Senior Citizens and representatives from National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD), Regional Resource & Training Centres of Sr. Citizen Division of the Ministry and reports received from the seven Working Groups which were constituted for designing comprehensive programmatic initiatives covering (i) Promoting Financial Security (ii) Healthcare and nutrition (iii) Promoting livelihoods and income generating activities (iv) Schemes for Shelter and Welfare (v) Skilling and re-skilling senior citizens for productive aging (vi) Awareness and capacity building and (vii) Promoting silver economy, etc
